Venusaur

49 cards · 29 sets · 1999–2025 · Highest FMV $6.4K

Venusaur is the final evolution of Bulbasaur, the original Grass/Poison starter from Generation 1. It's one of the most recognizable Pokemon ever made—a massive flower-backed toad that defined the entire franchise's early identity. Venusaur hits different because it bridges casual nostalgia and serious collector interest in a way few Pokemon do. In the TCG market, Venusaur shows up constantly across decades of printings, which keeps supply high but also keeps it relevant across multiple card generations. It's a steady category rather than a chase hit—you'll find Venusaur in modern sets, vintage sealed products, and mid-grade singles across the board. For speculators, that steady presence matters: it's liquid, recognizable, and never truly exits the conversation.

So just picked up Charizard blastoise venusaur and gyarados all in PSA 1. I haven’t seen much content on vintage . These are all long term hold going to complete top 10 for now. What are some other under valued vintage . It’s only a matter of two or three underwhelming sets til I think maybe everyone goes back to basics . Correct me if I’m wrong

Mr. Beard, What would you consider to be the best 5 to 6 “battle scene” cards in Pokémon history outside of the modern chases? I re-entered collecting at Lost origin release, so I’m familiar with the Charizard vs Venusaur beef (B-Stars, UPC promo, JP exclusive XY era, etc), as well as the CZ and UPC Promo Zard vs. Mewtwo. Are there some older battle scene cards that either fly under the radar or that don’t immediately come to mind for most collectors?
