Brilliant Stars

172 cards · 2022 · Highest FMV $859

Brilliant Stars hit shelves in 2022 as the final major set of the Sword & Shield era, closing out a three-year run defined by V, VMAX, and the newly introduced VSTAR mechanics. The 172-card set marked the tail end of a production cycle that had dominated the modern format, landing right when the hobby's alt-art craze was at peak intensity. By this point, the Sword & Shield line had established itself as a pillar of the 2020–2022 boom. This set sits at an inflection point: it's modern enough to have broad print availability, but it's the last of its era before the next generation took over. The alt-art heavy focus means it carries the visual premium that defined late-cycle Sword & Shield appeal. For speculators watching the modern secondary market, Brilliant Stars represents the final act of a completed story—not vintage, not current, but a defined chapter with known print volumes and full retrospective context.

I think one of the biggest wake up calls was when I saw the pop report of the van goh pikachu and the price it was selling at. I know pop reports are still important but you have to have an obscene amount of demand to overcome it. For example, the brilliant stars zard is one of the most beautiful zards we have seen, yet the psa 10 doesn’t even come close to the 151 zard. Modern has taken center stage along side vintage. I do feel we are seeing iconic cards that will always fetch big numbers like that of the big alt arts we saw in swsh and sun and moon era.
