Methodology

We track completed sales of graded Pokémon cards on eBay, and only eBay. Every sold listing is captured and matched to a card in our catalog — 179,926 sales so far, going back to May 2023. eBay carries the deepest liquidity of any single marketplace for graded cards, which makes it the best single source. It is not every market: sales on Yahoo! Japan, Mercari, PWCC and the rest are not in these numbers.

Our catalog contains 20,114 cards across 173 sets, sourced from the Pokémon TCG API. Each card is tracked once per variant — 1st Edition, Unlimited, Reverse Holo and so on — which comes to 24,728 card-and-variant pairs. Of those, 9,199 have enough completed sales behind them for us to put a price on.

When a card sells on eBay, the listing title is parsed and matched to the correct asset in our catalog. We use a multi-stage resolution pipeline:

FMV is the median of completed sales for a given card, variant and grade (PSA 10, PSA 9, CGC 9.5 and so on) over the last 90 days. A median rather than an average, so one outlier sale cannot drag the number. If fewer than two sales land inside that 90-day window, we fall back to the median of every sale we hold for that pair instead. Most pairs are in that position, so most fair values are not 90-day figures — the confidence tier below is how you tell.

Be aware which tier you are looking at. Insufficient is the largest group — 15,028 of 25,254 priced pairs rest on a single sale — and a single sale is a data point, not a market price. We mark these rather than hide them, and we never present one as authoritative.

Active eBay listings are compared against the fair value for that card, variant and grade. When one is priced below it we work out the discount, and if it is one of the cards you asked Yuki to watch, she texts you. Links on the site go to the eBay listing through the eBay Partner Network; links inside a text message do not.

Active listings refresh every five minutes. Completed sales come in on a daily cycle, so a fair value reflects sales up to the previous day rather than the last hour. Fair values recalculate as new sales land. The catalog updates when The Pokémon Company releases a new set.
