Evolutions

Evolutions is the final main-line set of the XY series, released in 2016. It's a throwback to the original Pokémon TCG, built around base set nostalgia with reprints and reinterpretations of classic cards. The set carries forward the EX mechanic that defined the Black & White and XY era, keeping gameplay aligned with contemporary competitive formats of that period. 108 cards of direct homage to 1990s design. This set sits at the bridge between the aggressive, EX-heavy metagame of 2011–2016 and the eventual Standard rotation. It's modern enough to see tournament play but retro enough to appeal to players chasing that base set feel. Not a chase-card driven release like some of its era-mates—Evolutions trades on nostalgia and playability rather than rare alt-arts or premium pull rates. Collectors and players both grabbed it, but for different reasons.
